Conventa Fam Trip explore Maribor and Pohorje
Conventa Fam Trip explore Maribor and Pohorje

From 21st  to 23rd of January the Tourist Board “Maribor – Pohorje” and Terme Maribor took 11 Conventa hosted buyers from all over Europe and 1 from Asia on authentic fam trips around Styrian capital, Maribor, and its surroundings.

All hosted meeting planners from Conventa 2016 were invited to discover Maribor, Slovenia’s second largest city and one of the fastest growing destinations in Slovenia, which in 2012 gained the flattering title “European Capital of Culture”. Maribor is also well known for its worldwide attraction, Žametovka vine – the oldest vine in the world (more than 400 year old vine) that entices many tourists to the Old Vine House from the most remote parts of the world.

This part of Slovenia is an intriguing tourist destination, as the Central Styria region and the Pohorje massif offer an incredible diversity of various adventures and opportunities to explore the region through tastes of regional wines and gastronomy, offering many sports and recreation facilities, cultural events, nature activities, rural tourism, particularly eco-tourism and of course wellness and well-being (spiritual) pilgrimages. The region is well prepared for hosting all sorts of business and congress events where you can also enjoy shopping and gambling activities.

And as for our hosted buyers and their first hand visit to Central Styria – they were accompanied by a local guide who showed them Maribor’s main city attractions. First they visited the Old Vine House and enjoyed tasting some of the great regional wines (Renski Rizling, Muscatel and others). Afterwards they treated themselves with a traditional lunch at the Old Guesthouse  Šiker, an old family run restaurant with sample local dishes. They also visited the apitherapist Mr Karl Vogrinčič whos wisdom and 40 years of beekeeping experiences led him to create a holistic apitherapy centre.

After enjoying the presentation of the modern  and  fabulous Denk Restaurant in Kungota, renowned for its five star cuisine and services, our guests  visited the Benedictine Dveri Pax, one of the most modern wine cellars in Slovenia, that stores over 300 thousand litres of wine, 50 thousand of which are stored in oak barrels. The last visit of this fam trip tour was the visit of Pohorje Mountain, where the visitors could admire the beautiful Pohorje landscapes and silicate mountain chain rising above 1.500 m of altitude.
