The ninth month of the green year in Ljubljana, the European Green Capital 2016, is thematically dedicated to sustainable mobility and air quality concerns.

September in Ljubljana has been traditionally marked by the European Mobility Week – the most widespread campaign to promote sustainable urban mobility, in which Ljubljana have actively participated for fifteen consecutive years. Ljubljana is the only city that won the European Mobility Week award twice, for implementation and promotion of activities in this field. This year the campaign will be expanded and upgraded, because the activities will take place all month and will be supported by numerous permanent environment-friendly measures. Among them are the opening of the newly renovated public spaces, transport improvements, mainly intended for pedestrians and cyclists, the expansion of “Bicikelj” system and opening of the Kolopark, new bicycle racks at terminal stations LPP, Cycling Yearbook 2014-2015 and new charging stations for electric vehicles.

With the activities, we appeal to the citizens to reflect on the individual environment-friendly engagement for the common green future. This means that each person should think about how to travel more consciously, healthily and with fewer negative impacts on the environment. This is the key theme of this year’s European Mobility Week (EMW), which runs under the slogan “Smart Mobility for Economic Success.”

Point. For You.
The September programme at the Point. For You. and many other locations in Ljubljana is very diversified and educational. On 22 September, World Car Free Day, all city buses will run free of charge. You can also take tours with Mountaineering or Cycling Association of LPP, which will take place every Saturday and Sunday, run through the city or cycle themed paths – Plečnik, Waterside, Forest and PTS path – with Ljubljana Tourism.

The events will be aimed at all generations, but at the end of September, when Ljubljana is hosting The Festival of the Third Age, we are preparing special workshops and tests for senior citizens, who will be able to learn about the Information point for the elderly and for persons with disabilities 65+ at 1 Mačkova Street.

Local districts – the ambassadors of the European Green Capital 2016
Ljubljana district communities are actively involved in the Green Capital programme, since each of them will have become a green ambassador for three weeks by the end of the year. The current ambassador is the Bežigrad district, and will pass the title to Trnovo district on 18 September.

On Thursday, 22 September, World Car Free Day, all Ljubljana Local districts will be involved in the green programme. The goal of that day will be trying to answer the question what other purpose, instead of cars, can valuable public space serve for. In all 17 city quarters the motor traffic will therefore be restricted at one of the local roads and that area will be used for performing a varied programme.
