Ljubljana was again ranked among the Global Top 100 Sustainable Destinations at the Global Green Destinations Day conference. Next to Ljubljana, all of Slovenian destinations holding the national Slovenia Green Destination quality mark were included on the list, making Slovenia the country with most sustainable destinations in the world.

The list of Global Top 100 Sustainable Destinations is a joint initiative of international organizations Green Destinations, Travelmole’s VISION on Sustainable Tourism and the Destination Stewardship Center. The selection of world’s most sustainable destinations was carried out by a jury of internationally recognized experts in the field of sustainable development.

Ljubljana, the European Green Capital 2016, was the first holder of the Slovenia Green Destination quality mark last year, when the national certification scheme was established. Internationally acclaimed as the Global Top 100 Sustainable Destinations 2016 are also all of last year’s Slovenia Green Destination quality mark holders Kamnik, Idrija, Rogla-Zreče, Radlje ob Dravi, Cerkno, Laško, Žalec, Celje, and this year’s new holders Nova Gorica, Brda, Kranjska Gora Maribor, Ptuj, Slovenj Gradec, Velenje and Bela krajina.

But that is not all. In scope of the Global Green Destinations Day, Ljubljana celebrated also for the third time. Taste Ljubljana, a project by Ljubljana Tourism introducing Ljubljana’s traditional dishes that are still being prepared today, was placed on the list of Top 10 Green Solutions. In total, three Slovenian and seven foreign solutions were awarded.
