Rotaract European Meeting to be Held in Vilnius 2018

Vilnius was recently selected to host the Rotaract European Meeting (REM) in January 2018. The event will bring together up to 500 youth representatives from 60 countries around the world to discuss Europe’s potential humanitarian directions.

During the event, participants will get acquainted with Lithuanian culture, history and gastronomy. The event will also feature various activities and workshops organised to encourage cooperative relations in the development of socially responsible business partnerships in Lithuania. The event will bring in upwards of six figures in revenue, which represents a significant contribution to the Lithuanian economy. The Pre & Post REM will be held in other Lithuanian cities: Kaunas and Druskininkai.

REM 2018 marks the first time Lithuania’s Rotaractors decided to apply as host for the biannual meeting. Marius Krasauskas, Lithuania’s Rotaract community representative in Europe, and the REM Vilnius 2018 Organising Committee chairman Lukas Puidokas, submitted the winning bid, which was supported by the Lithuanian Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis, Foreign Affairs Minister Linas Linkevičius, Vilnius City Mayor Remigijus Šimašius and Rotary District 1462 Governor Rolandas Statulevičius. Organisers were grateful for the Vilnius Convention Bureau’s (part of Go Vilnius) consultations in preparing the successful bid.

It is symbolic that this event will take place during Lithuania’s jubilee year, when the country will be celebrating their 100th anniversary of the Day of Restoration of Independence. In addition, 2018 marks the Rotaract International community’s 50th anniversary and the European Rotaract community’s 30th anniversary.
