Historical and modern spirit of the ZRC Atrium’s neighbourhood

Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (ZRC SAZU) does not just own the title of one of the most prominent institutions in Central and SE Europe, but it also owns one of the most charming event venues in Slovenian capital.

The venue’s name ZRC Atrium already points one to the right direction. Atrium is by definition a skylit central court in a contemporary building or house. In this regard, the ZRC Atrium without a doubt delivers with the natural light from above. However, it delivers even further, for the usually open atrium’s ceiling is in the ZRC’s case finely finished with a marvelous glass roof that protects the venue from the weather surprises.

In addition, the premises of the ZRC Atrium dazzle its possible 200 visitors with centuries old arcade halls and massive arches. The beauty, atmosphere and historical spirit of the environment certainly will stimulate brain of any participant, let it be business or academic event.

Another reason for choosing the ZRC Atrium for your event is in its perfect location in the midst of the Ljubljana’s architectural heritage on one hand, and in the nub of the city’s modern heartbeat on the other.

For example, in a close proximity of the venue, the National and University Library stands its ground as the exquisite cultural monument designed by famous Slovenian architect Jože Plečnik. Equally enchanting is the Križanke building, just steps away from the ZRC Atrium. The complex of the former Monastery with adjoining Church nowadays wears a tangle of gothic, renaissance, and baroque elements finally signed by Jože Plečnik’s 1956 transformation into an open-air theatre and festival space. Not to mention the beautiful 18th Century square, adjacent to Križanke, surrounded by trees and topped with several monuments dedicated to historical figures spanning from Napoleon to 20th Century writers, academics, composers, etc.

City Museum of Ljubljana, also located just a stone’s throw away, offers a rare glimpse into the past life of Ljubljana and its inhabitants going back for more than 2000 years. One should not forget to have a short walk to the scenic Ljubljanica river. A narrow river, flowing between old colorful houses and numerous bars and top-notch restaurants, offers many renovated spots on its shore for sitting and watching the Ljubljana’s modern life passing peacefully by. Moreover, one can hop on one of the boats that offer rides for even more scenic views. And for additional fun, participants in the events at the ZRC Atrium can have a different break than usually and go to Museum of Illusions to test their own limits of perception through illusions and holograms.
