What even is craft beer?

For laic beer drinkers, the term craft beer might sound like a potion made in someone’s garage by self-proclaimed beer drinking aficionados. Well, they might not be as far from the truth as you think. Craft beer is beer that isn’t produced by multinational corporations, but instead, in local and independent brewing companies, called “microbreweries”. But unlike a witch’s potion, these beers are considered to be the highest in quality, richest in flavour and enjoyed by only the most experienced beer connoisseurs, who know what to order when they step into the bar.

Craft breweries are not only a good local economy booster, but also an excellent sign of a destination’s urban atmosphere. They are bringing the culture of beer drinking to a higher level and we can expect it to stand side by side to wine tasting and its traditions in a very short period of time. We believe microbreweries are in direct correlation with the congress industry, as participants are stepping away from mass-production and are looking for more intimate and authentic congress stories.

We went on a hunt to find the very best regional craft breweries and the people that are putting all their heart and soul into making their tasty hop brew unique and a cut above everyone else’s.

SKNIPA BEER, GREECE

We are George, Angelos, and George. In 2010 we started as a group of home brewers. The only things we started with were our taste for beer, sufficient knowledge on how to make our own pure beer, and, above all, a desire to experiment with new beer recipes. Driven by passion and love, and in compliance with all standards, we decided to create our own microbrewery. Five years later, we are proud to say we have succeeded. With the SKNIPA Standard Microbrewery of Thessaloniki, we made our love, our passion, our madnes a profession. And we aim to give everyone the possibility to taste a fresh beer. A beer that is unpasteurized and unfiltered. A beer with rich aromas and flavors.

Where can I find them?

Our facilities are located just outside Thessaloniki, in the area of Thermi, at the 17th km of the Thessaloniki–Polygyros provincial road. It is a well-designed space of 400 square meters, built for a single purpose: the proper functioning of a well-equipped brewery.

TASTED AND TESTED

Sknipa
Sknipa is a Strong Ale beer which has its origins in Thessaloniki. It has a deep amber color and it creates a high enriched crown, whereas its intense scent of hops, citron and pine are evident when it is served. Sknipa’s flavor is bland and hinted with caramel and its carbonation is natural and discreet.
