The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre’s (the Centre) General Manager, Alan Pryor, Deputy General Manager, John Burke and Director of Human Resources, Muhammad Vickneswaran kicking off the venue’s eighth consecutive Earth Hour 2018 with over 440 team members and their families. Joining the world in a historic lights-out display, the Centre not only turned off all non-essential lights but created a “Dining in the Dark” experience for attendees on 24 March from 8:30pm to 9:30pm, in support of the World Wildlife Fund’s global climate change agenda.

Speaking at the gathering, Pryor explained the Centre’s participation in the annual Earth Hour is an on-going initiative as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme. As he stated, this annual event is a time to unite as a global community and recommit to protecting our planet. As Malaysia’s premier convention facility and Asia’s only AIPC (International Association of Congress Centres) Gold Standard venue, they are a visible member of the business events community. They hope that our effort to raise awareness of environmental issues will inspire others, especially the younger generation, to take action beyond the Earth Hour gathering.

Pryor continued, that the Earth Hour at AEG-affiliated venues was taken to the next level this year, with the introduction of the first-ever AEG 1EARTH Earth Hour Challenge 2018. As part of AEG’s company-wide sustainability programme, 22 of the most iconic venues worldwide competed against one another to see who can conduct the most innovative and impactful Earth Hour campaign.
