The main celebrations are centered around the month of May. Reasong being, that in 1858 in May the first tourist community was established and the first hotel, with 13 rooms was opened in Hvar.

On May 10th, the city of Hvar hosted an oenological festival Hvar – The Island of Wine, while through all the festivities’ days there were numerous exhibitions, concerts, and other entertainmet programmes. The 6-day celebrations marked the importance of tourism for this world-renowned island that often hosts the biggest celebrities from the entertainment (Beyonce, Brad Pitt, John Malkovich, etc.).

Hvar’s Mayor Rikardo Novak told about the plan for Hvar’s tourism: »We hope and are doing a lot so that the positive tourism trends continue and believe that the 150th anniversary of tourism in Hvar will be an additional new driver for people to visit our city and our island.«

For the next year, Hvar is planning to do additional infrastructure and landscaping works and promote it as a desirable place to live. The emphasis on culture will be emphasized, while the culinary offer, active holidays, meetings industry, health tourism and quality accommodation will be promoted with the addition of the first five-star hotel in Hvar.

In the first 10 months of 2017, 197,000 tourists visited Hvar, which was 15% more than in the same period of the previous year (2016).
