EuCNC 2018 is the 27th edition of a successful series of a technical and scientific conference open to the world research community in the field of telecommunications, focusing on communication networks and systems, and reaching services and applications. The conference is financially supported by the European Commission.

The conference targets to bring together researchers from all over the world to present their latest research results, being one of the main venues for showcasing, demonstrating and trialling the results of research projects, especially from successive European R&D programmes.

The theme for EuCNC 2018 “5G and Beyond” reflects the EU’s 5G research/deployment roadmap as well as the future development of smart network connectivity technologies in Europe. Fifth-generation wireless, or 5G, is the latest iteration of cellular technology, engineered to greatly increase the speed and responsiveness of wireless networks. The 5G is expected to be an essential enabler for the next big step in digital transformation by providing connectivity to people, wherever they live, work, gather or travel. It is also expected to transform the economy by providing wireless connectivity to all objects.

On their website, the organisers explain why they chose Ljubljana for the conference: »Ljubljana is high on the list of European capitals of science and innovation. With numerous research and scientific institutions, Ljubljana is home to more than 50 000 students and boasts a remarkable rise of entrepreneurship and high-tech companies in the recent past.« They add: “This is what makes Ljubljana a great environment to discuss connectivity platforms and networks, which are at the heart of digital transformation from both the economic and societal perspective.«
