Reflecting the growth achieved by Vienna’s meetings industry in 2017

After the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) declared Vienna the second most popular destination for international congresses worldwide in 2017, the Union of International Associations (UIA) followed by awarding fourth spot to the Austrian capital, moving one place up.

Of the international congresses hosted in Vienna, 488 complied with the criteria for inclusion in the UIA ranking. This was enough to merit fourth spot for Vienna in a list led by Singapore (802). Second, and third place went to Brussels (757) and Seoul (639). Vienna finished ahead of Tokyo (247) in fifth place, followed by Bangkok (223), Paris (205), Berlin (172), Busan (171) and Geneva (158). This latest international success reflects the growth achieved by Vienna’s meetings industry in 2017. At EUR 1,162 billion, Vienna’s contribution to nationwide induced economic impact passed the one-billion-euro mark in 2017 already for the third time (first time in 2015). Meetings and congresses in Vienna also set again a great record for overnight stays, at 1.87 million (+9 %) bednights for the year.
