Maribor – Pohorje Tourist Board is for the second weekend of month of May preparing a special culinary festival in its first pilot edition. The Salad Festival will be held in Maribor’s city centre and it will be launched as one of the programmes in the frame of Slovenia’s title of the European Region of Gastronomy 2021.

The innovative idea of the Salad Festival will combine the colours of Maribor salads. Meaning, there will be bowls presented in which salads used to be served in in the past, while at the same time at the market the oil makers and vinegar makers will be presented. The vegetable growers will have their stands along the workshops that will provide the interested public with knowledge and skills in gardening, high beam preparations, vegetable picking, as well as in the salad making. Maribor – Pohorje Tourist Board is organising the festival in collaboration with the Maribor’s Vocational School of Catering and Tourism which has been renowned for its high-level quality in Slovenia and beyond.

Visitors, general public as well as professional and business public, will during the one-day festival be able to learn about the award of the European Region of Gastronomy, listen to lectures and attend workshops on the theme of wild food, learn about preparations of green salads, preparations of salads as the main course, attend an exhibition on salad bowls, participate in the selection of the most special bowl, check the stands of lettuce and vegetable growers, and taste fresh products at stands intended for the oil and vinegar producers. With this event, the capital of Slovenian Styria is adding another culinary star in its rich gastronomy traditions and trends. For once, the pilot is not about TV series, but about salads!
