Car sharing systems, when people rent cars for short period of time, from minutes to hours instead of the classical car renting that demand half a day or a day of rent for pricey costs, have been known all around the world. Car sharing has been particularly popular and known in the States were the Zipcar has become a synonym of an urban, modern, progressive and sustainable rend of mobility. However, to not be mistaken, car sharing is not an American invention and it is neither a novelty. The first car sharing was in fact introduced in Zürich in 1948 but it was not a large project. The first whole-system carshare projects were then introduced in the 70’s in France and in Amsterdam, then later in Britain, Switzerland, Germany, Canada, Sweden and only then, in the 90’s, in the United States.
It is true, though, that the real era, the real growth and popularity of car sharing only became a reality in early 2000’s with establishment of Zipcar in the States. Since then, the car sharing is a must for any sustainable, modern and progressive city. Ljubljana joined the group of world-wide cities that provide the car sharing with the Avant2Go which is not just a regular car sharing, but it goes a step further in sustainability as the system uses only electric cars that add to Ljubljana, as the European Green Capital 2016, another note in its green melody as the cars make no noise, no emissions and they use the latest technology. Ljubljana Tourism and its Convention Bureau do not use the Avant2Go cars only for its drives connected to work, but they also offer it to their business partners when on visit or meeting in Slovenia’s capital. In addition, the famous Travel Dudes, a very established and renowned blog team, when spending in June five days in Slovenia during making a travel documentary about Ljubljana and the region, also used the Avant2Go car. No doubt the Avant2Go has a shiny and green future in ahead.
