In Lent, the oldest part of the city of Maribor, the Minorite Church, represents the central building in the Minorite Monastery that was designed already in the 13th century and is the only medieval monastery in town. In the 18th century, the church got its baroque façade and tower and kept them all until now. Today, both of the venues, monastery and church, are operated and cared for by the Maribor Puppet Theatre that performs in the halls of the Monastery, while the Church besides theatre production provides also space for other events.

Lent, the Maribor’s old city centre, that amazes with its vibrant streets, mighty buildings and wonderful frontages, monuments and fountains that adorn the city’s squares, bridges that link the banks of the river, towers that rise into Maribor’s sky, is not just home to the Oldest Vine in the world, but it is also a home to the only medieval church in Maribor.

Mairbor’s Minorite church got completely renovated between 2014 and 2015. The important sacral building for the history of the city has gotten back its late-Baroque image, while some important discoveries of the past construction were left uncovered so that the history of the church can be seen through their beautiful presentation.

The team who carried out the renovation, received in 2015 from Slovenian association of preservation (Slovensko konservatorsko društvo) an award as “the renovation of the former Minorite church is an important element of the city’s revitalization as well as an example for interventions and methods of renovation works at comparable monuments in the wider region of Slovenia and Europe.”

Clients organise the catering by their wishes. As the building is a protected monument, the catering has minor limitations but these make for an added value of the event due to their ‘conversational character’ on the history, art and culture of this stunning building: the catering can’t serve red coloured food and drinks (red wine, red juices, red fruits, red sauces, and similar).

INCENTIVE IDEAS

As the Church stands in Lent, the perfect incentive idea is to go see nearby located the Old Vine House with the Oldest Vine in the World in its front or take the traditional timber rafting on Drava river.
