In 2015, Ljubljana first made it onto the list of top 20 bicycle friendly cities in the world taking the 13th place, and this year it improved its ranking. It made it as high as the 8th place on the »Copenhagenize Bicycle Friendly Cities Index 2017«.
Within the framework of the »Copenhagenize Bicycle Friendly Cities Index 2017« 136 were evaluated and based on 14 criteria a list of top 20 bicycle friendly cities was compiled.
During the evaluation of our city the jury noticed that the title European Green Capital 2016 further supported cycling in the city, the share of cyclists has increased, and the cycling infrastructure follows modern guidelines and good practice cases making its expansion easier. They pointed out positive promotion of cycling as the key element and added they see no reason why Ljubljana could not reach a 20 or even 30% share of cyclists in traffic in coming years.
