The deadline for entries for new initiative Tomorrow’s Talent has been extended until Friday 1 March, due to high levels of interest from the UK event industry. Launched by The Meetings Show in partnership with Meetings & Incentive Travel magazine, Tomorrow’s Talent aims to champion young meeting and event planners and provide a platform for nurturing, mentoring and supporting the industry leaders of the future.

A new platform for supporting up and coming talent in the industry

The Meetings Show has identified the need to provide a new platform for supporting up and coming talent in the industry, with advisory board member and Tomorrow’s Talent judge Patrick Delaney saying: “We have a tendency to be short-term project focused and use and burn without having the balance of genuine encouragement, support and recognition.”

The initiative is open to entries from event organisers aged 30 and under at the time of The Meetings Show 2019 (26-27 June), and entrants can either put themselves forward or be nominated by a colleague. A panel of industry professionals will select the most promising under 30s to receive a series of opportunities throughout 2019 to raise their profile, provide networking opportunities and peer-to-peer learning, and enjoy VIP attendance of The Meetings Show.

Part of Tomorrow’s Talent judging panel

Ryan Curtis-Johnson, head of PR & marketing at drp and one of the Tomorrow’s Talent judging panel, said: “It’s time we started to shout about the new talent within the events industry. Reviewing the entries, I will be looking for someone who has really gone out and tried to embrace and establish themselves within this ever-growing and fast-paced industry. I’ll also be looking for someone you can tell will be a rising star within the industry and be impactful to our industry, possibly a slight disruptor. Lastly, I’ll be looking for an individual who demonstrates that they love what they do, as this I believe is the reason why most of us are still in this industry to date.”

Full benefits for the 10 winners will include attendance at a celebratory lunch; personal profiling opportunities through M&IT and The Meetings Show; VIP attendance at The Meetings Show 2019 including travel to the show and one nights’ accommodation, tickets to the Pre-Show Conference and Hosted Buyer Welcome Reception, access to the Hosted Buyer Lounge at the show and tickets to the MPI charity party; their own dedicated Tomorrow’s Talent drinks reception at The Meetings Show; the chance to sit on a panel as part of The Meetings Show’s education programme; and, for one winner, the exclusive opportunity to secure a place on The Meetings Show’s advisory board for 2019/20.

To take part, nominees must be under the age of 30 at the time of The Meetings Show 2019 (26-27 June), be based in the UK, and hold a full-time position as a meeting or event planner.
