Just recently, the baton was handed over from the Basque Country (venue of the event this year) to Friuli Venezia Giulia (venue of the 2020 edition) in the presence of an audience of 250 sector professionals

Friuli Venezia Giulia, and in particular Trieste, will be the venue of the 12th edition of the leading international event for the food and wine tourism industry: the International Wine Tourism Conference (IWINETC- www.iwinetc.com).

Founded in Spain in 2009, the conference is held annually at up-and-coming destinations for food and wine tourism, such as Porto, Tbilisi, the Champagne area, Barcelona and the Basque Country, the venue this year. At this event, the staff of PromoTurismoFVG recently presented the territory of Friuli Venezia Giulia to more than 250 international tour operators, journalists and stakeholders from all over the world, using the city of Vitoria-Gasteiz as a virtual example.

The choice to hold the next edition in Friuli Venezia Giulia confirms that the strategies implemented in recent years to promote the food and wine offer of the region linked with tourism, and in this case with the conference, are bringing important results. Following the nomination of the region, the organising board of the IWINETC visited several destinations and chose Friuli Venezia Giulia for the hospitality it received locally, the suitability of its accommodation and conference facilities, the guarantee of receiving all the logistics and organisational support required from PromoTurismoFVG and, last but not least, the increasing importance of the region as a destination for food and wine tourism.

The event, scheduled to take place in Friuli Venezia Giulia from 24-26 March 2020, is expected to be attended by experts in the industry from all over the world, who will take part in conferences, workshops, tastings and itineraries to discover the food and wine heritage of the region.

It will therefore be a valuable opportunity for professionals in the regional food and wine tourism industry to interact with international colleagues, take stock of the state of the art of the industry and forge partnership agreements.
