Maribor is well-renowned for its extraordinary access to nature, with an attractive position between the Drava river, the green Pohorje plateau on one side and sunny wine-growing hills that stretch all the way to the Austrian border and beyond on the other. This landscape contributes to Maribor’s fame as a sports destination as well for it provides extensive sports activities all-year-round.

Next to the rich natural scenery stretching from urban to rural surroundings and offering countless opportunities for hiking, biking, adrenaline, and other sports activities, the city offers all the necessary infrastructure and conditions for conducting sport competitions and training camps for athletes on a quality and cost-competitive level. Last year, as an example of Maribor’s good practice in preparations and hosting various sports events, the 2nd largest Slovenian city wore the title of the European City of Sport 2018.
