The inaugural EU City Summit took place at The Hotel in Brussels on Tuesday, 3 March 2020. The B2B event was the first joint initiative of a new, collaborative European convention bureau network. The cities of Florence, Gothenburg, Ljubljana, Lyon, Salzburg and Valencia stepped together to showcase their potential as meeting destinations, with Brussels – an important hub for international and European associations, as their premier location. Through this cooperation platform, the cities aim at building mutually beneficial relationships with associations, offering them a one stop shop of experienced European meetings destinations.
The idea of creating a collaborative network was born last year, amongst a group of diverse European cities that share some common characteristics. While they sometimes compete for the same association meetings, the six cities recognise the advantage of working in collaboration with each other. Obvious benefits are the increased awareness of the cities amongst potential clients, the sharing of knowledge, experiences and business insights and the use of resources in a time and cost-effective way.
