Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre has been recognised as an Employer of Choice for the fourth consecutive year, in the annual Australian Business Awards 2020.

The award comes during a year of immense challenges for workplaces around the world, in particular for the business events industry, which has been greatly affected by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Even during these uncertain times, Chief Executive Peter King said this award was indicative of MCEC’s ongoing commitment to employee health and wellbeing.

“This has been a really tough year for many, and I’m so incredibly proud of the culture of support that we have built as an organisation,” Mr King said.

“Our people play a big part in that; without them, we wouldn’t be acknowledged as an Employer of Choice. I want to thank them for everything they do every day to deliver not just for our customers, but also for one another.”

The annual Employer of Choice awards recognise workplaces that maximise the potential of their workforce through effective employee recruitment, engagement and retention.

Over the last year, MCEC has offered a range of health, wellbeing and learning benefits to its employees, with initiatives such as onsite yoga, exclusive food and beverage offerings and a comprehensive Employee Assistance Program.

However, since the advent of the coronavirus pandemic, MCEC has further invested in these areas, developing health and wellbeing resources, establishing a learning credit program for training outside of work and offering support through regular mental health webinars.

“Our inclusive culture, a wide range of health and wellbeing activities, and in-depth career development programs are key to our success not just as an employer, but as a business overall,” Amanda Wilson, Director of People and Culture, said.
