GREEN MICE, GREEN BUSAN!

An eco-friendly MICE campaign will be held in the MICE city Busan for a week starting December 5. As the title “GREEN MICE GREEN BUSAN” suggests, the campaign invites local businesses and citizens to join together to create a sustainable MICE. Through the campaign, we seek to realize the social value and connect people to various contents related to eco-friendly MICE, such as movies, events, and promotional items. We invite everyone to join with us for this special week celebrating the eco-friendly MICE city of Busan!

Local MICE Industry Realizes Eco-Friendly Ideas

It can be said that eco-friendly MICE events start with event planning. The Busan Tourism Organization operated an eco-friendly MICE campaign idea contest for MICE Alliance members through which businesses submitted their ideas for realizing a sustainable MICE industry. Contest participants submitted a variety of unique ideas and the four following ideas were chosen for support: a fine particulate matter alarm system that could be checked from the roof of the Busan Cinema Center; a tumbler and recycling product contest operated through Manmanhannyeoseokdeul’s eco campaign; a vegan catering and trash minimization plan, conducted as part of L To Plan’s 2020 Busan OUR-ISM Urban Regeneration Exhibition; and digital check-in list and online guestbook, operated at The Well’s Smart Week.

By supporting these four eco-friendly MICE ideas, we hope to turn “sustainable MICE” into a reality. Even though these ideas may seem like small efforts operated by four individual businesses, we hope that these efforts will create a ripple effect throughout the entire MICE industry, helping others consider and adopt eco-friendly measures. Together, the efforts of local MICE businesses can lead to greener MICE.

Making Eco-Friendly Scarves from PET Bottle Waste

For Busan, a marine tourism city, marine waste is a problem of particular concern. Plastic waste that fills the ocean threatens marine life, but also the city’s food sources. During the eco-friendly MICE campaign, warm scarves were made from plastic collected from the ocean. During the eco-friendly MICE week, waste from PET bottles was made into 100% reusable polyester and crafted into eco-friendly scarves that were promoted in various locations. By using eco-friendly materials, we can reduce waste, energy use, and carbon dioxide emissions, solving several problems all at the same time. This unique, eco-friendly scarf is the result of a collaboration with Busan’s fashion brand Wave Union, a company that pursues sustainable fashion.

Promoting Eco-Friendly MICE with an Online Event

An online event is being operated to increase the eco-friendly awareness of Busan citizens and local businesses. The online “popularity voting contest event,” seeks to promote the ideas submitted by businesses in the aforementioned eco-friendly MICE campaign idea contest. In addition to voting for their favourite event idea, online event participants pledge to participate in eco-friendly activities led by the MICE industry. The eco-friendly MICE campaign will be promoted globally through MICE magazines, online media, and social media channels. Through these and other events, we hope to realize an eco-friendly MICE industry, starting with the city of Busan.

The “GREEN MICE, GREEN BUSAN” campaign seeks to pave the way for eco-friendly MICE events to occur more easily and more often. Future Sustainability can only be achieved if everyone works together. Please join us by riding this “wave” of eco-friendly campaigns to create a sustainable future for the MICE industry.
