St. Petersburg Committee for tourism development held a meeting of the working group on the selection of ambassadors of Saint Petersburg. In all, out of 17 candidates, 13 representatives of various spheres such as science, sports, medicine, culture and education were selected.
Ambassadors are professionals who are renowned in their field (higher education, science, medicine or economics) and are active members of national or international associations, institutions and bodies. The Program was initiated and developed in 2018 by the Saint Petersburg Convention Bureau. It stands to mention, that the Northern Capital became the first city in Russia to launch this strategically significant program.
Among them is Denis Zaslavsky, a member of the Management Board of V.M. Tarnowsky St.-Petersburg Society of Dermatovenereologists, Ekaterina Artyushkina, director General of the St. Petersburg State Budgetary Cultural Institution «Petersburg Concert», Vladimir Shamakhov director of North-West Institute of Management – branch of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration.
There are currently 22 leading academic, medical and business leaders who work closely with the Bureau and Saint Petersburg Committee for tourism development to attract and host national and international conferences and events in the city, and also play a fundamental role in adding to the destination’s reputation and ranking.
As of today, Convention Bureau and the Committee, together with the acting ambassadors, have already submitted 20 applications and attracted 13 rotating congress and exhibition events – 3 had been held, the rest will take place in the period from 2021 to 2028. As a result, around 19 thousand delegates will visit the city and their spending would significantly stimulate the local economy and bring more than 2.4 billion rubles into the primary budget of St. Petersburg.
