With an increasing number of Croatia’s population being vaccinated, everyone is hoping for the easing of restrictions and a return to pre-pandemic times. This week, Croatia is set to host the first pilot project, which will be held without protective masks while maintaining social distance.

The Minister of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia Nina Obuljen Koržinek announced that concerts without epidemiological measures could start in June. “It primarily depends on what percentage of citizens will be vaccinated, but it could be in June,” said the Minister of Culture, answering a question from a Croatian Radio journalist about when concerts will be held again.

So far, according to epidemiological measures, a maximum of 250 people can gather indoors and 500 people outdoors. The Minister pointed out that the number of people in the open-air setting reached 1,000 last summer before vaccination.

“The Minister spoke about holding concerts and said that the test projects executed in Barcelona and Liverpool could also work in Croatia.”

“Until the number of people in hospitals decreases and the daily number of those infected falls, even more, the measures will not be eased,” she said.

“This week, the first test business reception is set to be held without protective masks and maintaining social distance,” she added. “We are in contact with colleagues abroad all the time and follow what is happening. Unlike them, we in Croatia have decided to keep culture open all the time. Theatres, cinemas and concert halls were allowed to work, but for too few it was commercially viable, that is, to be able to cover the costs,” she said.

One week after the event, participants in such gatherings will be tested by PCR tests, and if it turns out that there was no transmission of the virus, the number of those who will be able to attend such events will gradually increase. It depends on the results of the test project whether the next move will be to allow concerts and other large gatherings with more people who have some form of protection.
