Bratislava played host to an eye-opening press trip for eight renowned journalists from Spain, Portugal, UK, Hungary, Holland, Belgium, Italy and Germany. The participants saw Bratislava shine in a new light as they discovered the secrets Slovakia’s capital hides. Three days of sightseeing took the invitees on a tour across Bratislava’s most extraordinary venues.

Among other must-see tours, the participants experienced pottery, visited the gallery Danubiana and dined in Bratislava’s genius loci – the UFO Restaurant. Furthermore, they had the privilege to visit and enjoy an unforgettable wine experience at Elesko Winery. The leading Slovakian winery is renowned as one of the most modern wineries in Europe. The participants had the chance to experience modern architecture intertwined with rural charm and try a selection of exquisite wines. The journalistic expedition also indulged in fine dining in the Albrecht restaurant. The third day was marked by lunch and wine tasting in Simak Castle, where the highlight of the visit was a tour of the largest gallery of modern glass in Central Europe.

The second day of the press trip was marked by a visit to the legendary Slovak Guggenheim – the Nedbalka Gallery overlooking Umbrella Street. The Nedbalka Gallery offers exclusive premises for rent in the city centre, including a unique backdrop for various events from receptions, lectures, seminars, conferences, concerts and press conferences all the way to photo and commercial shootings.

The adrenaline side of the participants was awakened as they embarked on a speed boat that took them across the Danube to the White Water Centre. Here, they put their teamwork skills to the test as they experienced the thrill of the rafting ride. Bratislava’s transport enthralled the participants as they got to ride around the old city centre in a Prešporáčik®Oldtimer that showed them the hidden gems of Bratislava while giving them historical insight. The legendary Prešporáčik took them to the Bratislava Castle, offering them stunning views over the city and the baroque garden.

INTRODUCTION TO THE FASCINATING WORLD OF POTTERY

One of the lesser-known facts participants found out is that Slovakia is extraordinarily rich in folk handicrafts. However, only a few artists have been keeping the tradition alive. Among them, Renáta Hermysová strives to preserve Slovakia’s cultural heritage in her atelier Majolika R, the only remaining atelier producing traditional ceramic products. The participants were introduced to the fascinating world of pottery.
