Net Zero Carbon events is a new global industry initiative to address climate change. The events industry has a special role to play in tackling climate change since we provide the meeting places and marketplaces to work on solutions to the climate crisis.

“We have a responsibility to minimise our impact on climate change. The events industry is a complex network of stakeholders including companies who are directly involved in delivering events, such as venues, event organisers, exhibitors and their suppliers who provide food and beverage, onsite equipment and signage, among other things. In addition, many events include the requirement for visitors and exhibitors to travel to and stay at a location. Addressing the carbon emissions across the whole value chain is complicated and challenging, and many elements of an event (such as transportation and hotel stays) are not directly under the control of those putting on an event. Therefore, responsibilities and scope need to underpin any ambition for the events industry to become net zero. We believe in collaboration to succeed in this,” says Linda Elmén, Sustainability Manager at Stockholmsmässan

Stockholmsmässan is the first venue in the Nordic region to join this initiative. Stockholmsmässan is certified according to ISO 20121 – Sustainability at events, and has set the goal to develop a plan for fossil-free and climate-positive operations. This work has already begun.

The initial objective for this initiative is to align industry support and advance the creation of a Net Zero Pledge for the Events Industry. More information about Net Zero Carbon events can be found here.
