A robot receptionist that can greet visitors at hospitals; an AI Planner that makes air traffic flow predictions more precise; and a driverless taxi. These are just some of the UAE’s latest inventions being showcased at Expo 2020 Dubai.

It forms part of a week-long exhibition at Expo’s Festival Garden under the patronage of the Mohammed bin Rashid Centre of Government Innovations (MBRCGI), as part of UAE Innovates 2022. Running from 11-16 February, UAE Innovation Week is the largest national event celebrating innovation and innovators across the nation.

The UAE Pavilion itself is currently holding a similar exhibition as part of the Innovation Festival, highlighting inventions including a material that absorbs carbon emissions, round-the-clock solar power, technology that makes chemotherapy less debilitating, and a system helping stroke patients relearn how to write.

Various government departments and private agencies are taking part in the UAE Innovates exhibition, which is divided into five themes: Health Innovations, Future Economy, Utilising Data, Tech for Good, and Green Barjeel, which explores growing microalgae for biofuel.

Upcoming events include ‘Experiment on the Moon’ on 13 February, which looks at the first student-led lunar mission; the ‘E-transformation of Services During the Pandemic’ as well as the launch of the Virtual Innovation Museum on 14 February; and entrepreneurship talks with His Excellency Omar Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications on 16 February.
