On 8 February, the day of the Slovenian cultural holiday, the Slovenian National Day was celebrated at the World Expo in Dubai. Several events were held as part of the celebrations, including two ceremonies and a concert of Slovenian music. On this occasion, Slovenia was represented by Minister of Economic Development and Technology Zdravko Počivalšek and Minister of Foreign Affairs Anže Logar.

During the World Expo, each participating country celebrates its “National Day”. The Slovenian National Day was held on the day of the Slovenian cultural holiday.

The main event with the cultural programme took place in the morning at Al Wasl Plaza, the most important Expo venue. The keynote speaker at the ceremony was the head of the Slovenian delegation at the Slovenian National Day, Minister of Economic Development and Technology Zdravko Počivalšek. Minister of Foreign Affairs Anže Logar also attended the event.

Slovenia. Green and Smart Experience

Later in the day, the Slovenian National Day reception hosted by Minister Počivalšek and Minister Logar was held at the Slovenian pavilion. The reception was attended, among others, by Slovenians living and working in the United Arab Emirates and representatives of the Slovenian companies participating in the business programme of the Slovenian pavilion.

In the afternoon, a concert was held at Al Wasl Plaza, open to all visitors to the Expo, where Slovenian musicians presented Slovenian folk music and songs by contemporary songwriters. On the occasion of the Slovenian National Day celebrations, the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia, Tibor Šimonka, also visited Expo 2020, where he met with the leaders of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Expo 2020 opened its doors on 1 October 2021 and will close in March 2022. Slovenia’s slogan at the exhibition is “Slovenia. Green and Smart Experience”, presenting Slovenia as a sustainable, modern, creative and forward-looking country, integrating the green environment, knowledge, breakthrough ideas and innovations, and the economy with added value.
