Velingrad’s Hemus factory is the only carpet-making factory in the region where they create one of a kind, world-famous carpets that embellish the splendour of castles and royal venues around the world. Introduced in the 1970s to offer employment for women in Velingrad, Bulgarian weaving fell into demise towards the end of the century. However, the family-owned company Helme saw the opportunity to continue its mission and become known worldwide. The company was soon making carpets that guests now marvel at when visiting the residence of royal families across Europe.
Hemus is the only carpet producer in the world that creates carpets spanning over 100 m2, making their pieces one of the most luxurious and sought-after products in Bulgaria. Each of their carpets is bespoke to the needs of the clients. Thus, buyers can choose their preferred design and pattern or opt for a painting-inspired royal rug. The company is the only one in Europe which has preserved the know-how of producing luxurious handmade textiles. Hemus has taken the specialized market niche by storm with its know-how, uniqueness and preparation processes.
Hemus’s pieces are a hallmark of endurance and venerable style. Made from premium cotton and wool, their products have become synonymous with the interior of the British Royal Family, the Osborne House, the Albert Museum in Vienna and the office of the British Prime Minister.
