Ljubljana Tourism won three awards at this year’s WEBSI competition that awards the best Slovenian digital projects. In the Tourism category, the project Plečnik’s Visions won first place, while in the category Digital against the coronavirus, the project took both first and second place. The online souvenir shop won first place in its category, trailed by the innovative podcast Ljubljana Talks.

Plečnik’s visions win 1st place in the Tourism category

In cooperation with the City Museum of Ljubljana and the France Stele Institute of Art History ZRC SAZU, Ljubljana Tourism designed a gamified guide through the unrealised projects of the great architect Jože Plečnik. The projects, had they been completed, would have had a profound impact on the present-day look of Ljubljana. With the help of augmented reality, the application reveals four great unrealised works by Plečnik for Ljubljana: the Butcher’s Bridge, the New Magistrate, the Magistrate’s Entrance to the castle and the Cathedral of Freedom.

At Ljubljana Tourism, they believe that new technologies can attract new audiences. Thus, the app appeals to younger generations. Statistics, nonetheless, confirm that this type of interactive guidance is also interesting for older generations.

Award-winning online souvenir shop

During the coronavirus pandemic, Ljubljana Tourism wanted to bring its products closer to domestic and foreign audiences, which is why an online souvenir shop was set up. Thus, all users who did not have the opportunity to visit Ljubljana could purchase a piece of Ljubljana. In recent years, Ljubljana Tourism has developed recognisable, high-quality and valuable collections of souvenirs, which contribute to shaping the image of an attractive and modern city with a lively touristic pulse.

Ljubljana Talks takes 2nd place

Ljubljana Convention Bureau and Toleranca marketing established an innovative podcast promoting Ljubljana as a quality congress destination and highlighting changes happening on the local and international meetings industry scene. Ljubljana Talks delves into global marketing trends, the recovery and relaunch of the meetings industry in the post-pandemic reality and how to organise creative events. The half-hour chats are streamed on the popular Clubhouse app and the YouTube platform. They are created and hosted by Jan Oršič, head of Ljubljana Convention Bureau, and Gorazd Čad, director of Toleranca marketing and Kongres Magazine.

Ljubljana Tourism is aware that it is necessary to actively adapt to the ever-changing landscape of the international meetings industry by providing quality content marketing. That was one of the reasons why Ljubljana Talks was created. Ljubljana Talks help strengthen the prominence of the destination, thus improving its visibility.
