The largest and most prestigious Ophthalmology conference in the Asia Pacific region.

Malaysia was unanimously chosen as the host for the 38th Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology Congress (APAO 2023) at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on 23 – 26 February 2023. Being the first conference of 2023 for the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), the APAO Congress is the largest and most prestigious Ophthalmology conference in the Asia Pacific region.

MyCEB, an agency under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia joined by the Malaysian Society of Ophthalmologist (MSO) were given the honour to further promote the science of ophthalmology in the region.

“We are thrilled to form a strong partnership with MSO to host this engaging and important congress, convening highly regarded delegates comprising of ophthalmologists, professors, researchers and healthcare practitioners. APAO 2023 is projected to boost the Malaysian economy by RM87.2 million in estimated economic impact and maximise Malaysia’s growth potential as a knowledge and creative economy,” said Dato’ Sri Dr. Abdul Khani Daud, Chief Executive Officer of MyCEB.

“This congress provides an ideal platform for our local experts to gain valuable insights and share best practices from their international counterparts, while at the same time allowing us to showcase Malaysia’s credibility as a business events hub and an ideal tourism destination,” he further added.

Fostering cooperation between ophthalmological societies

A total of 4,500 with 3,800 international delegates were present during the four-day congress following a collaboration bid by MyCEB and MSO in Hong Kong on 11 February 2018. The congress attracts top eye doctors from all over the world to share and exchange new concepts, advanced technologies, and latest treatments, as well as ophthalmologists’ common interest of specific eye diseases in Asia and Malaysia.

Bringing together ophthalmologists from around the world, APAO 2023 is committed in fostering cooperation between ophthalmological societies in different countries and collaborating with other international or regional organisations with similar aims.

The Malaysia Business Events Special Immigration Lane was given to all delegates attending the Congress at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2). Supported by MyCEB and the Immigration Department of Malaysia, these lanes will help delegates speed up the immigration process upon arrival at the airports.
