At the beginning of September, the annual conference of the European Consortium for Policy Research (ECPR) will take place in Prague. ECPR is a key European association bringing together academic institutions, researchers, and students in the field of political science and international relations. The ECPR annual conference is one of the largest and most important political science events in the world.

From 4 to 8 September, the capital of the Czech Republic will host leaders in this field of science. The city itself is an important partner of the event. It has supported the conference in its Tourism Support Program and the event has also received the auspices of the Prague Mayor.

More than 3,000 participants have registered for the conference

The organization of the annual conference is always entrusted to a specific university or college. The Institute of Political Studies of the Faculty of Social Sciences of Charles University has undertaken this task for the second time this year. In 2016, it was the second-largest conference in the organization’s history, attended by nearly 2,000 experts from 50 countries, who presented 1,926 papers across 463 panels and 67 sections. At that time, 611 of them shared their experiences on social networks, and the hashtag #ecprconf16, which was associated with the conference, reached up to 1.4 million users. This year will probably be a record-breaking year again: more than 3,000 participants have registered for the conference!

However, it is not “only” about numbers. Organizing a conference of the Charles University Institute is also a valuable opportunity to promote the research that is carried out in the institute. Therefore, participants can also look forward to round tables organized by academics of Charles University, with two “featured” round tables led by Petra Guasti and Michal Parízek. The keynote lecture: Ukraine is Europe will be presented by Maria Popova (McGill).
