Sava Center 2.0

One of the most anticipated regional openings has opened its doors to the public. The completely renovated Sava Center, an icon of Belgrade’s past and present and now the largest regional congress centre, was officially inaugurated last week. The gala opening was attended by over 500 key stakeholders of the Serbian meetings industry, who could see first-hand why the revamped Sava Center will become a regional leader.

The attendees were the first to experience the most immersive hall in the region, which boasts state-of-the-art technology. The press conference that followed the opening included speeches by Kristina Milinčić, the General Director of Sava Center and Angelina Nekić, the CEO of Delta Real Estate. They univocally agreed that Sava Center was built to last forever. A new era for the legendary convention and exhibition centre will begin on 14 November, when the venue will host its first event, expected to welcome over 1,000 participants from around the world.

A technological wonder

After three years of renovation, Sava Center can now host events and exhibitions for up to 5,000 attendees. The investment was led by Delta Real Estate and is estimated at 118 million EUR. The conference part of the new venue includes 65,000 square meters. Meeting planners can choose between 46 halls, including the famous Main Congress Hall and the centrepiece of the renovated Sava Center, the first completely immersive hall in the region.

Sava Center will be sustainably oriented, too. Over 17,000 square metres of green surfaces and verdure inside the building and in its surroundings will make it much more appealing to guests. More importantly, the venue’s modern heating and cooling systems, economical lighting, automatic control, as well as 912 solar panels on the roof will help Sava Center use 50 per cent less energy than before. According to estimates, the use of renewable energy sources will save 226 tons of CO2 emissions.

The largest convention centre in Belgrade and the former largest convention centre in Europe is a living encyclopedia of Belgrade’s modern history. Sava Center was built in a record time of six months to host the drawn-out OSCE 1977 conference, which lasted for eight months.

From its opening in 1977, Sava Center welcomed over 1.6 million visitors, who attended over seven thousand congresses and conferences. The first scheduled congress for Sava Center 2.0 will be the 14th European Nutrition Conference ENC-FENS 2023 between 14 and 17 November. Over 1,000 attendees will attend.
