Ahead of the Meetings Star award ceremony, honouring the best regional hotels, destinations and most influential individuals in the meetings industry, we talked to the finalists of the esteemed competition. Christian Alexander Beckmann, Business Development Manager at Loisium Hotels, shared why the customer-centric hospitality industry relies heavily on personalised experience and flawless communication. He also shared why Loisium Hotels are focused on sustainability.

INTRO: Can you describe your hotel using only four words?

Enjoyment. Lifestyle. Indulgence. Regional.

Q1: What differentiates your hotel from others?

The LOISIUM Wine & Spa Hotel stands out with its unique location, offering exclusive opportunities for meetings and events in an inspiring environment characterised by wine and enjoyment. With us, you can work in the most modern meeting rooms, but only a few steps out of the hotel, and you are in one of the most beautiful wine-growing regions of the world. We offer exceptional options to enjoy and relax after a seminar or workshop. True to our motto “Taste the Region”, there are numerous opportunities to turn your stay into a real experience: Visits to winegrowers and joint culinary tours through the vineyards are just two examples of the many possibilities. If you still want to relax, you can either visit the spa area or join our wine experts for a tasting session in our vinotheque to discuss new trends and news from the wine scene.

Q2: What are the novelties of your hotel in 2024?

We are currently in the process of renewing two key areas in our hotel: on the one hand, we will be giving some of the guest rooms a new look and, on the other, we will upgrade and modernise our meeting and event rooms with the latest technology. In addition, we continue to work on even more extraordinary experiences for our customers, away from the work in the meeting rooms. The supporting programme will, therefore, be even more in 2024: enjoyment, experience and fun for the whole team.

“we will use ChatGPT in our daily business to improve operational processes, but personal contact with our guests will always remain our top priority.”

Q3: As one of the leading experts in the industry, what are your thoughts on the ChatGPT craze? Is this another marketing hype or an actual tool that will make boring, routine jobs a lot easier?

The hospitality industry is highly customer-centric, relying heavily on communication and personalized interactions to deliver exceptional experiences. ChatGPT has the potential to revolutionize various aspects of hospitality operations, including customer service and guest communication (24/7 access), booking assistance, marketing, etc. Guests often value the personal touch and emotional connection provided by human staff, especially in our segment. So we will use things like ChatGPT in our daily business to improve operational processes, but personal contact with our guests will always remain our top priority.

Q4: What skills should a 21st-century hotelier possess?

In the 21st-century hospitality industry, a hotelier must deliver outstanding customer service, be skilled in digital to maximise the use of technology and be adaptable to changing market dynamics. Effective leadership, crisis management skills and intercultural competence are essential to maintaining excellent operations and promoting positive guest experiences. In addition, a commitment to sustainability, strong networking skills and continuous learning ensure long-term success and competitiveness in the constantly changing hospitality landscape.

Q5: We cannot avoid discussing the sustainable transformation of our industry. What must we do to create a world where more than nine billion people can live decently within planetary boundaries?

To create a sustainable future in hospitality for a growing global population, hoteliers must prioritize reducing environmental footprints through energy efficiency and waste reduction, promote responsible tourism practices that benefit local communities and preserve cultural heritage, and collaborate with stakeholders to drive innovation and collective action towards shared sustainability goals. It is in our corporate DNA to ensure a form of sustainable tourism. We see ourselves as a platform or ambassador for the region and thus prioritise close partnerships with local and regional partners. We do our best to act as sustainably as possible in all areas of hotel operations and also offer our guests opportunities to minimise their carbon footprint during their stay.

Q6: What is your definition of true hospitality?

True hospitality is about making everyone feel welcome, carefully recognised and respected!

“One problem that the entire meetings industry should work together to solve is sustainability.”

Q7: Can you name one problem the entire meetings industry should solve together?

One problem that the entire meetings industry should work together to solve is sustainability. The meetings industry, which includes conferences, conventions, trade shows, and other gatherings, often generates significant environmental impact through resource consumption, waste generation, and carbon emissions.

Q8: Do you enjoy podcasts? Which is your favourite?

Not really.

Q9: What is the best travel advice you have ever received?

Be on time and count 30 minutes of buffer time (minimum).

Q10: If you could take anything home from your favourite hotel, what would it be?

The mattress because these are mainly better than at home!
