The 14th Annual Laser & Health Academy (LA&HA) Symposium, co-hosted by Fotona, was held from May 27th – 28th 2024 in Ljubljana. It was a special occasion as Fotona celebrated its 60th anniversary. This was the most comprehensive LA&HA Symposium to date, with updates on the latest clinical research and presentations from the most highly esteemed medical laser experts from around the globe.

Cankarjev dom’s congress department led the entire logistics and registration of attendees at the event, which was attended by a record 1,300 attendees from eighty-one countries across the globe. Cankarjev dom’s team thus faced the challenge of managing the numerous letters of guarantee and administrative processes needed for attendees to gain visas to enter Slovenia and the Schengen zone. Staff members arranged over 100 letters of guarantee for congress attendees.

Before the event started, we spoke to Ms. Tjaša Prešern Krivec, marketing Manager at Fotona.

About Fotona

Fotona was founded in Slovenia in 1964, only four years after the invention of the very first laser and is one of the most experienced developers of high-technology laser systems, recognized for the design, manufacture, and support of advanced solid-state laser systems for medicine (aesthetics, surgery, gynaecology) and dentistry.

Q1: How important are events for the growth and promotion of your company?

Events and exhibitions play an integral role in developing and promoting Fotona. They enable us to present our innovations and the high-tech laser systems we create. In addition, they help us to connect with doctors, other experts and our industry. Not least, events help strengthen our brand, underlining the role of our employees in fostering innovation.

Q2: What are the company’s most important milestones?

Fotona was founded in 1964, just four years after the invention of the laser. The company has a rich history of innovation in the laser industry. Striving for continuous technological development has allowed us to become one of the leading companies producing medical lasers. Fotona is famed for its innovations and many patented solutions such as CoolMist™ cooling, SMOOTH® technology, Dynamic Vacuum technology, ASP®, OPTOflex® and more.

Undoubtedly, the year 2004 was a big milestone when the company chose to focus exclusively on its medical program. Today, Fotona operates globally with subsidiaries and a distribution network in more than 80 countries, providing comprehensive support and service to users of Fotona lasers.

The Laser and Health Academy, established by Fotona in 2008, has been the company’s partner in education and training as well as clinical research on the use of lasers in medicine. We consider the development of this strategic partnership to be an especially important milestone in the company’s development. In addition, Fotona is also a founding member of the European Competence Center for Biomedical Engineering and the Fotonika21 technological platform.

Q3: What was the main reason you chose Ljubljana and Cankarjev dom to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the company and your symposium?

Fotona’s story began sixty years ago in Ljubljana, so choosing our home city as the location was straightforward. And since our motto is Choose Perfection, it was logical to organise our celebration in a venue that strives for perfection, so Cankarjev dom was the natural choice for us.

Q4: What advantages does cooperating with the PCO team of Cankarjev dom bring?

Working with Cankarjev dom’s team was splendid as they proved on all levels that they are professionals with a wealth of experience in hosting major events. They provided us with world-class tech support and offered us the choice of numerous lecture halls, according to our wishes. This enabled our company to focus on our primary job of creating expert content for the Symposium.

Q5: How many attendees from how many countries attended the symposium?

The event was attended by over 1300 attendees from more than 80 countries. This was the most attended Symposium thus far and shows our current global reach. We are particularly proud that the participants were addressed by the President of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar.
