Andrej Matacin has been appointed Head of the Opatija Tourist Board, bringing extensive experience in the tourism industry. He will lead efforts to further strengthen Opatija’s reputation as a leading MICE destination.
A career in the hospitality and agency business
Andrej Matacin graduated in tourism management from the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management in Opatija. Throughout his nearly twenty-year career, he held various positions that provided him with a comprehensive understanding of the tourism sector. He began his career working in the hotel industry, and then at the Kompas agency, where he worked as a team member on the organisation and implementation of events.
After almost ten years of working at Kompas, Matacin moved to the DMC agency Meeting Point in Rijeka, where he held positions from key account manager to operations and product manager.
Focus on promoting the brand of Opatija
In his new role, Matacin will promote event tourism at fairs and conferences, collaborate with both international and domestic study groups, and work closely with tourism stakeholders. He will also oversee the development and marketing of other tourism segments in Opatija.

Having succeeded Goran Pavlović, who was a recognisable face of the Opatija tourism brand for more than 16 years and left a deep mark on the positioning of Opatija as an event destination, Matacin can now further develop the appeal of the destination. With its infrastructure, tradition, natural beauty, and hospitality, Opatija remains one of the most desirable places for organising business events in the region.
