The IUPESM World Congress sees the International Organisation of Medical Physics (IOMP) and the International Federation for Medical and Biomedical Engineering (IFMBE) come together to exchange cutting-edge research, explore groundbreaking innovations, and forge new collaborations in medicine and healthcare.
The triennial Congress, this year themed as Bridging the Gap: Science, Technology, and Clinical Practice for a Sustainable World, comes to Australia for just the third time in its history, being held at the Adelaide Convention Centre between 29 September and 4 October 2025.
Business Events Adelaide CEO, Mr Damien Kitto, said the attraction of Adelaide to IUPESM organisers was clear. “Organisers are drawn to Adelaide for its world-class expertise across complex, cutting-edge research fields, and visiting delegates often find Adelaide to be the ideal place to do future business,” he said.
Confirmed speakers at the Congress include Dr Fiona Adshead, Chair of the UK’s Sustainable Healthcare Coalition; Professor Simon Cherry, Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of California – coinventor of the whole-body positron emission tomography; and Dr Jitendra Sharma, Managing Director and Founder CEO of the pioneering medical device manufacturing hub AMTZ in India.
Adelaide-based Professor Eva Bezak, the Congress Convenor of Medical Physics at IUPESM, was this week awarded a Fellowship by the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE). She will become President of the International Organisation for Medical Physics (IOMP) following the upcoming Congress and is set to lead IUPESM as President in 2028.
Speaking about IUPESM being in Adelaide, Professor Bezak said, “Delegates will have the unique opportunity to participate in technical tours to leading facilities such as the Tonsley Innovation District and the Royal Adelaide Hospital, showcasing South Australia’s commitment to cutting-edge healthcare and translational research.”
