New Zealand’s world-leading coach development systems have helped secure the ICCE Global Coach Conference for Wellington in 2027.

Organised by the International Council for Coaching Excellence (ICCE), the conference celebrates coaching as a force for good, with education themes including inclusion and equity, wellbeing and ethics in coaching, digital futures, and sustainable coaching pathways.

The global event is expected to deliver 750 delegates to Tākina Wellington Convention & Exhibition Centre in November 2027 and deliver more than $1.8m in economic benefit to the city. The bid was led by Sport NZ, with support from Business Events Wellington and Tourism New Zealand Business Events.

Business Events Wellington Manager, Irette Ferreira, says the city meets all the selection criteria for an international conference of this scale, from a world-class venue in Tākina, to accommodation and a wide range of after-match function spaces and activities.

“Wellington’s compact layout, walkability, and integrated public transport make it an ideal host for a seamless and enriching delegate experience.”

Tourism New Zealand Global Manager Business Events, Penelope Ryan, adds: “Hosting the ICCE Global Coach Conference will enhance New Zealand’s reputation as a leader in coaching and offer fresh perspectives for visiting delegates through the incorporation of indigenous knowledge. We look forward to showcasing all that Wellington and Aotearoa New Zealand have to offer.”

“New Zealand will bring a unique perspective to the ICCE Global Coach Conference 2027 with our world-leading coach development systems, which include Sport NZ’s Balance is Better philosophy, and the integration of Te Ao Māori and indigenous knowledge into the coaching conversation,” says Andy Rogers, Conference Chair.

“Some of the key challenges facing Sport NZ are the retention and development of coaches in what is a rapidly evolving sporting landscape. We believe hosting the ICCE GCC 2027 will provide an opportunity to collaborate with international experts to explore these challenges, share innovations and co-create solutions. It will also allow us to showcase Sport NZ’s work, learn from others and strengthen global partnerships that can support the ongoing evolution of coaching in Aotearoa and beyond.”
