A PRESTIGIOUS VILLA IN A NEW GUISE

On the edge of Lake Bohinj in Ribčev Laz stands Vila Muhr, a former hunting lodge originally built in 1902 by Adolf Muhr, based on designs by Austrian architect Franz Ritte von Neumann. Following an extensive renovation, the prestigious villa reopened to the public in 2025. With its mix of classical elegance and contemporary design, it has quickly become one of the most distinctive and sought-after event venues in Slovenia.

After WWI, the villa became the property of the Karađorđević royal family and a venue for numerous important social gatherings of the European aristocracy. Following decades of varied use, including periods as a hospital and a hotel, the villa fell into complete disrepair.

A comprehensive renovation led by OFIS Architects restored the original volumetric design while integrating contemporary ecological materials and details. The ground-floor façade preserves stone from the original ruins, while the upper floors are clad in Slovenian timber, treated without chemicals to ensure entirely natural protection.
