A new step has been taken toward the realisation of the long-awaited congress centre in New Zagreb. The City of Zagreb has launched a public consultation on the proposal to implement the city project Velesajam, thereby initiating the formal procedure for developing the location for the congress centre and its accompanying facilities.

The site covers approximately 7 hectares in an exceptionally attractive part of the city, bounded by Većeslav Holjevac Avenue, the Zagreb Fair, Joszef Antall Street, and Dubrovnik Avenue.

A catalyst for regional growth

“A modern congress centre will bring the development of conference and business tourism to Zagreb, further strengthen the city’s tourism potential, and, I believe, also improve the overall business environment in Zagreb. Equally important, we are planning a new city theatre, as well as a hotel, office building, and garage at this location,” said the Mayor of Zagreb, Tomislav Tomašević.

These planned facilities will be elaborated in detail in the programme of the urban-architectural competition, which will serve as the basis for preparing the urban development plan. As part of the project preparation, a study on the development purpose of the congress centre and accompanying commercial facilities has already been prepared, as well as a study on spatial capacities for cultural activities.
