From 26th to 29th of May 2016, Ljubljana changed its green colour to all the colours of the rainbow. The European Green Capital 2016 proudly hosted the third Pink Week, a LGBT oriented travel and social event that perfectly connected outdoor, cultural and culinary experiences.

This year the Pink week in Slovenia had a special reason for celebration since not so long ago the International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association set an important milestone. The leading global organization dedicated to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender tourism, announced its organizational partnership with the European Travel Commission. IGLTA and ETC are committed to a world where all travellers feel welcome, regardless of their orientation or gender identity and share in the goal of strengthening the tourism industry at large.

This May, the organizer of the Pink Week in Ljubljana, Imperial Luxury Travel Solutions, offered a boutique luxury experience which showed international visitors that Slovenia and Ljubljana are LGBT friendly destinations. Slovenian Tourist Board and Ljubljana Tourism also supported the event.

The carefully prepared programme included 3-nights stay in Ljubljana, a stay at the Slovenian Riviera with the degustation of locally produced olive oil and wine, a fairytale lunch at Bled and the Dragon’s Ball 2016. The gala evening under the patronage of the Mayor of Ljubljana, Mr. Zoran Janković, was not only an opportunity for the visitors to have a good time and see that Ljubljana is also a party city, but has a donor note and a positive effect on the society as well. For this purpose only the Ljubljana Castle was coloured pink and the rainbow flag was hung at the Town Hall.

With the conclusion of Pink Week Ljubljana continues to work towards being a LGBT friendly destination. American Metro Weekly already placed Slovenian and Ljubljana on the first place among the seven recommended destinations for 2016. Ljubljana is also a member of the Rainbow cities that exchange good practice and experiences at the LBGT field.
