Dubai has announced plans to build a new convention center in Al Jaddaf near Dubai Creek, ETN reports.

At a press conference Sunday Dubai city officials said that the new facility, which will span 55,000 square meters and provide space for 10,000 people, is scheduled to be completed in two years at a cost of Dh1.8 billion.

The complex will have two hotels, offices and halls, and will be situated next to theMohammad Bin Rashid Library, facing Dubai Festival City. The main hall, Shaikh Rashid Hall, will be designed like a theater with the ability to accommodate 10,000 people. It will have five sub-halls, covering a total area of 10,500 square feet, each of which can accommodate up to 1,000 people. The halls will be linked to the hotel and office building by the Concourse Building, a 50,000 square foot, air-conditioned space with shops and restaurants.

The new convention center is part of the city’s run-up to World Expo 2020, which will take place in Dubai. City officials also said they were planning a third project in the same area, with details to be announced soon.
