Istanbul has solidified its place in “The World’s Top 10 Congress Destinations” since 2010, hosting 148 congresses in 2015, 18 congresses increase over 2014, making the city the 8th most popular congress destination worldwide. This result points to 14% rise comparing to 2014 which 130 congresses were held.

Istanbul jumped into the 8th position from 9th previous year with 148 international congresses. Istanbul steadily continues to increase its position in the meeting industry by capturing the 8th position in the world and 7th position in theEuropean ranking. Hosting 148 international congresses in 2015, Istanbul again solidified its position in the world’s “Top 10 Congress Destinations” according to data released by ICCA. In addition, Turkey ranked world’s 18th and Europe’s 11th with 211 congresses.

Accommodation in Istanbul, with unique Turkish hospitality, is both numerous – at 100,000plus beds – and diverse with a selection across the spectrum including more than 194 five-star and four-star hotels and 103 more to be open.

Another factor in the city’s increasing performance is its easy accessibility from anywhere in the world. Turkish Airlines, offers daily direct flights between Istanbul and more than 290 cities worldwide. With two airports, one on the Asian side of the city and the other on the European side and the 3rd international airport under construction will be the world’s largest in terms of passenger capacity by 2019.

The city is currently focusing on investment to increase the capacity to welcome and accommodate ever higher visitor numbers. Along with the developments in themeeting industry, international visitor number of Istanbul reached over 12.4 million in 2015.
