Summer heat in Ljubljana can best be beaten with a scoop of gourmet ice cream prepared by a famous Slovenian pastry maker Alma Rekić. After winning the sixth place at the world competition for the best ice cream, SoolNua World ICECREAM Index, the Grand Union Café hopes to climb the ladder and be the best ice cream provider of 2016. Business guests and visitors of Ljubljana can already taste the new first-class ice cream flavours in Grand Union Café, while lovers of this cool desert are invited to attend The Ice Cream Mania event organized by Union Hotels.
Since ice cream is a delicious and refreshing dessert it is also the most common dessert served to business guests at events, conferences and congresses in the summer time. To discover the best provider of ice cream in a variety of congress destinations, last year the Irish agency SoolNua launched SoolNua World ICECREAM Index. In 2015, this innovative and creative digital campaign attracted 30 ice cream vendors from around the world. A whooping 25,000 votes were cast during the voting period. Slovenia was present with three pastry shops and has succeeded to become, together with Ljubljana and pastry shop Lolita, the No1 ice cream destination of the world. The Grand Union Café was placed on the excellent 6th place.

The café staff does not hide their excitement and places all bets on their pastry maker, Alma Rekić. The public got to know Alma better as a judge on the famous cooking show Masterchef Slovenia. She has an amazing feeling for creating desserts that is run by the latest trends of world renowned cuisines. Alma has been written in the culinary history with her knowledge and numerous awards won at international competitions. About a year ago she joined Union Hotels and now proudly pampers the guest’s taste buds with her famous Bled cream cakes, different desserts and very special, first-class ice cream created for gourmet tastes.
