The herring feast is a proper culinary feast for all lovers of Lenten dishes, which is held at the Union Hotels since 1908, starting annually in 1925 when a culinary exhibition was added to the event. Nowadays the tradition, despite a few novelties, still lives on at the Grand Hotel Union and we believe that the 92nd Herring Feast will be as special as the first one.

Shrove Tuesday marks the end of the traditional merry and lively Shrovetide carnival and Ash Wednesday signifies the beginning of the forty-day period of lent as the preparation for the biggest Christian holiday, Easter. The story of the traditional Herring Feasts goes back to 1908, three years after the Grand Hotel Union was built, as what was at that time the most modern hotel south of Vienna.

This year for the first time, Herring Feast will bring some freshness, as the event is to be held as a special offer in all of the Grand Hotel Union Restaurants – Restaurant Union, Restaurant and bar Atelje, Restaurant Pri Levu and Central kitchen. Special menus that will follow the tradition Herring dishes will be available to fascinate you with the chefs’ ingenuity, innovation and top quality cuisine.

The 92nd traditional Herring Feast will take place on Ash Wednesday on March 1st, 2017.
