On 17th and 18th March 2017 CD Congress Centre Ljubljana traditionally hosted the conference for Family Medicine experts. Already the 20th Family Medicine Days, so called Schrott days welcomed doctors in Linhart Hall, the second biggest hall of CD Congress Centre Ljubljana, with 800 m² area and full equipment. The event was visited mainly by Family Medicine specialist and many other Medicine specialists from the other area of expertise, as well as general practitioners and pharmacist. The traditional event for Family Medicine Experts every year attracts participants with goal to present the novelties in treatments and share and improve the professional knowledge in the field of Family Medicine.
A strong debate on the role of family medicine, a branch of primary-care medicine that provides comprehensive health care regardless of their age or gender, and emphasizes the family unit, is currently discussed in Slovenia now (as everywhere else in the world) due to some system changes and changes in our society. It is in best interest for patients that those changes are tracked and monitored carefully and transformed in well-organized healthcare system. That is why the importance of family medicine doctors’ annual meeting and exchange experience is immense, especially this year, when 20th anniversary has been commemorated.
Schrott days are dedicated to family doctors, the specialists of family medicine and all doctors and pharmacists who wish to renew knowledge and to provide additional education in the field of family medicine. First Schrott days were held back in 1997, with the purpose to connect the joint meeting of specialists in various disciplines and to shed light from different angles of the topic and present the news relevant to the family doctor. Within a few years, the event has grown into one of the largest and most important meetings. The event is named after the first specialist, then general practitioner, Janez Schrott. One of his ideas was the idea of the family doctor, which despite the clinic system of work had difficulty in realization.
