20th Family Medicine Days in light of necessary debate and changes

On 17^th and 18^th March 2017 CD Congress Centre Ljubljana traditionally hosted the conference for Family Medicine experts. Already the 20^th Family Medicine Days, so called Schrott days welcomed doctors in Linhart Hall, the second biggest hall of CD Congress Centre Ljubljana, with 800 m² area and full equipment. The event was visited mainly by Family Medicine specialist and many other Medicine specialists from the other area of expertise, as well as general practitioners and pharmacist. The traditional event for Family Medicine Experts every year attracts participants with goal to present the novelties in treatments and share and improve the professional knowledge in the field of Family Medicine.

A strong debate on the role of family medicine, a branch of primary-care medicine that provides comprehensive health care regardless of their age or gender, and emphasizes the family unit, is currently discussed in Slovenia now (as everywhere else in the world) due to some system changes and changes in our society. It is in best interest for patients that those changes are tracked and monitored carefully and transformed in well-organized healthcare system. That is why the importance of family medicine doctors’ annual meeting and exchange experience is immense, especially this year, when 20^th anniversary has been commemorated.
