Besides cultural events, sport events can easily be one of Carinthia’s biggest distinctive point since the region hosts numerous sport events through all the year. From the famous “Ironman Klagenfurt” traditionally organized each July, International Lake Faakersee Run and Lake Faakersee Triathlon, volleyball championship, lake Wörthersee hosting the Half-Marathon run with one of the most perfect sceneries and route, and many more.

Carinthia region offers plenty of opportunity for indoor and outdoor sport events and activities and Klagenfurt being Austria’s No. 1 sports town is home to well over 200 sporting clubs and the widest selection of sports imaginable, so sport events here are perfect with this kind of natural sceneries. No wonder the whole Carinthia region is recognized as a perfect meeting destination, from strictly business events, conferences and congresses, to various cultural and sport events like the latest Tour de Kärnten, traditionally held in the sunniest Austrian region where also this year, from 20th to 25th May 2017 road bikers participated in one of Carinthia’s biggest bike competition. The competition, meant only for the strongest one is serving as well as endurance race where body and mind of competitors must align with the 6-day race and approximately 440 kilometres, around 8,000 elevation gain around the Lake Ossiach and the Nockberg mountains. International participants from Austria, Germany, Great-Britain, Italy, Luxemburg, Netherlands, Northern-Ireland, Russia, Slovenia and Suisse competed in this 6-stage race, containing stages between 30 and 130 kilometres and up to approximately 2,000 meters in height per day, in total approximately 450 kilometres and 8,000 meters in height, with race finishing at Lake Ossiach.

The Tour de Kärnten” race is prepared, organized and executed like the famous “Tour de France“and “Giro d´Italia”, giving it all the professionalism and extremeness for involved participants, bicycling through perfect Carinthia landscape. One of the biggest bicycle event in Carinthia with the number of participants limited to 350 starters is organized uder the honorary patronage of one of the best Carinthian biker Paco (Peter) Wrolich. This year’s final winner of total 6 stages was Klaus Steinkeller.
