Q: Describe your work assignments as Head of the Lighting Department at the Cankarjev dom, CD Congress Centre Ljubljana?
As the Head of the Lighting Department I plan, manage, coordinate and control the work in the department and also the technical area at CD Congress Centre Ljubljana on specific projects. I consult and prepare suggestions for the development of this working area, design and implement project assignments for individual technically demanding events, creatively design and execute the lighting production and projects inside and outside the CD Congress Centre Ljubljana and Cankarjev dom, and I plan, execute and update the system and technical equipment needed in the department.
Even though lighting is usually not top of the list when designing an event, it should be. Together with Multimedia, it can create truly magical events and a place where people will feel the magic. Lighting creates an atmosphere and the much needed WOW effect that people will remember for a long, long time.
Q: 5 tips for organising a perfect event from the lighting perspective?
- Precise information
- Good choice of space and a good arrangement
- Enough time for preparation
- Technical equipment (enough equipment, good quality, etc.)
- Good ‘script’…
Q: What is the best part of your job?
Hmm…if I would have to say – then it would be the fact that I am independent and creative at designing an event from a lighting point of view.
Q: What would make your job easier?
Lighting is incredibly important to any event and careful planning is very important. When you work under time pressure, the result may not be the best one. So, from that point of view – enough time for the implementation of the lighting design would make my job easier :).
Q: What motivates you most at work?
That we are kind of wizards – we give a magic touch to every event. An experienced and enthusiastic lighting designer should handle every detail of lighting and tailor it specifically to the event.
