Tourism Ljubljana received a prestigous award WTM Responsible Tourism Award in category of best communication. The new award presents for Tourism Ljubljana another recognition in the line of important international awards and it confirmes Ljubljana’s proper direction in the development of the sustainable tourism.

The jury checked more than 500 entries and chose 12 finalists among which only three were from Europe. Ljubljana won the best communication award on the grounds of active cooperation in the promotion of sustainable mobility, organised purchase and distribution of food through Green shopping chains, following to the national green politics, use of the qualitative indexes for sustainable development recommended by OECD, efforts in managing tourism etc.

Harold Goodwin, president of the jury noted that the members of the jury were very impressed by the results Ljubljana achieved in such short period of time.

Upon receiving the award, director of Ljubljana Tourism, Petra Stušek, said that the WTM prize for Ljubljana means an acknowledgment of city’s efforts for the sustainable development. She added that the award consolidates Slovenian capital »in the world’s map of sustainable destinations and binds it towards executions of ambitious goals for the improvement of quality life of the residents as well as of the guests«.

The WTM Responsible Tourism Awards have since 2004 been focused on tourism’s contribution to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
