Hilton and Zagreb City Hotels d.o.o announced today development plans for Canopy by Hilton Zagreb. The project, featuring Hilton”s hotel brand that redefines the lifestyle hotel category, is scheduled to open in late 2018. The property will provide a comfortable stay for guests in search of thoughtfully local experiences in Zagreb”s vibrant downtown neighborhood. The hotel will be the first Canopy in continental Europe.

Situated in downtown Zagreb, close to the city”s main rail station, the hotel is expected to welcome its first guests in late 2018, and will be the second Canopy by Hilton property in Europe, joining Canopy by Hilton Reykjavik in the Icelandic capital.

Downtown Zagreb is undergoing a transformation – benefiting from considerable inward investment and the subject of a major urban renewal programme. The connected shopping mall, Branimir Centar, is currently under redevelopment by Supernova, one of Europe”s leading retail developers, and is set to become Zagreb”s leading entertainment and retail destination.

Launched in 2014, Canopy by Hilton is characterized by its deep connection to the local neighborhood, brought to life by the properties” Team Members, known as Enthusiasts. Guests can look forward to sampling artisan Croatian food and drink at daily tasting events, and enjoying thoughtfully local touches throughout their stay.

Once the site of Croatia”s first confectionary factory – Union, which opened in 1911 – the hotel”s design will draw on the heritage of the neighbourhood, with industrial materials and fittings used throughout the property”s interiors.

As the city”s industrial activity waned in the middle of the 20th Century, Zagreb became home to a number of residential developments built in the modernist architectural aesthetic. The furniture within Canopy by Hilton Zagreb will draw on this mid-century influence, offering stylish public spaces and comfortable guest rooms to visitors of the city. The hotel”s walls will be adorned with urban art, echoing the thriving street art visible throughout the local streets.

The neighborhood”s famous artisan chocolate remains a draw for visitors keen to experience Zagreb”s annual Coffee & Chocofest, which takes place in February, and is one of the capital”s main gourmet festivals. Zagreb”s famous Advent Market has been named Europe”s top Christmas market for two consecutive years and throughput the year the city plays host to a wide range of cultural and artistic events.

Canopy by Hilton Zagreb joins two Hilton properties in Croatia – DoubleTree by Hilton Zagreb and Hilton Imperial Dubrovik.
