Rajko Vajd, the representative of the organisational board, states that the CD has been chosen every year because the Days of Schrott present the central educational event and meeting for the Slovenian Family Medicine Society where one of the colleagues receives a prize as the best doctor in Family Medicine of the year. Therefore, as Mr.Vajd points out, »This important event needs to be organised in a respectable environment, and CD as the Slovenian house of culture, is the most approproiate venue for it.«
This year’s Congress was attended by 270 participants who came to learn about the novelties and diagnostics important for the doctors of Family Medicine to lead the best possible care for their patients. When we asked Mr.Vajd how would he present Ljubljana to his international colleagues for medical meetings, he answered, »Ljubljana has an important geographic position between the East and West Europe, excellently developed health care, and an incredibly beautiful nature. Thus, everything what a country as a destination needs.« The Cankarjev dom – Cultural and Congress Centre adds to the destination’s value because »It is a home with a soul, while its location in the centre of the city positions it among the best locations for events.«
The first Schrott Days were organized in 1997. Their aim was to gather in one meeting all specialists of different professions and to shed a light from different view angles onto the clinical topic and to present all of the novelties, important for the doctors of Family Medicine. In just a few years this congress grew into one of the Slovenian largest and most important meetings from the field.
So called Schrottovi dnevi (Days of Schrott) wear the name after the first specialist in Family Medicine, at the time called General Medicine, doctor Janez Schrott. He was born in 1908 and has gradauted from Medicine in Zagreb in 1932. For decades he worked in general and family medicine. One of his ideas was to establish a profession of a doctor of family medicine.
The Congress is organized by the Slovenian Medical Association, Slovenian Family Medicine Society (Združenje zdravnikov družinske medicine) and Association for the development of Family Medicine (Zavod za razvoj družinske medicine) and annually hosted by Cankarjev dom – Cultural and Congress Centre (CD).
