Bologna

In the latest report of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), released on May 7, 2018 for the year 2017, the city of Bologna ranked 91st with a total of 29 meetings of international associations held last year.

Bologna made it, for the first time, into the top 100 destinations in the world for number of meetings organized by international associations; a result of great importance acknowledged by one of the most anticipated publications in the Meeting Industry. The ICCA report is one of the few annual reports that compares the performance of destinations all over the world, paying great attention both to achieved results on a national level and to data related to individual cities.

The city has progressed remarkably

Bologna, ranks abreast with cities like Basel, Los Angeles and Venice for having attracted the same number of events, while on a national level Bologna has been reconfirmed as one of the major destinations: it was placed in the TOP5 for number of international events.

This result is an official confirmation of the steadily growing trend of incoming concrete requests since the establishment of Bologna Convention Bureau in 2016.

The city has progressed remarkably in the field of international meeting industry and BCB has worked hard for its promotion, hosting numerous congress organizers and international events, in order to expand the knowledge of Bologna and its potential, as well as its beauty and its accessibility, as a destination for business trips. Bologna Convention Bureau operates in synergy with local institutions and stakeholders, acknowledging one of the most important and profitable levers in this strategic sector to spread a positive and impactful image of the entire Bologna metropolitan area in the world.

Bologna

Bologna has strengthened its leading position in the meeting industry sector, thanks particularly to the large investments made in infrastructures: from the recent renovation of the Bologna Congressi-BolognaFiere Congress Center, which now has a 1750-seat plenary, to the brand new FICO Eataly World convention center within the largest agri-food park in the world, that guarantees a unique experience, without leaving behind the prestige of the numerous meeting spaces in hotels, in constant renewal and expansion like the Savoia Hotel Regency, which will soon have a plenary of 1000 seats. Moreover, the Marconi International Airport of Bologna confirms the constant growth of the direct flight network, with particular attention to the Asian market.

Bologna Convention Bureau and Partners

Bologna Convention Bureau also works in close collaboration with Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna: through the Bologna Ambassador Project, it involves leading figures from academic, medical, scientific, professional, entrepreneurial and institutional sectors of the city, who are interested in nominating Bologna as the site of future congresses or other events. BCB offers them concrete support, providing professionalism and tools that help them in the application process to realize an event acquisition.
